Welcome to Parents4Autism
Welcome to www.parents4autism.com a free resource for parents seeking information and support on Autism. This site was made as a venue for outreach to families trying to find answers to their questions.

About Me
I am a mother of a smart, active, creative, funny 8-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 4. After years of ABA Therapy, OT, Speech Therapy, Food Therapy, IEPs, PTMs, we are in the crossroads of graduating from therapies and starting new ones. Four years ago, Autism wasn’t as mainstream as it is today. Information was scarce and outdated. I hope that this website can help empower parents and loved ones to find clarity in the journey that is Autism.

Definition
Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These signs all begin before a child is three years old. Autism affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize; how this occurs is not well understood.
History
The latin word autismus was first created by Swiss psychiatrist Eugene Bleuler in 1910 while defining symptoms of schizophrenia. He derived it from the Greek word autós (meaning self), and used it to mean morbid self-admiration, referring to "autistic withdrawal of the patient to his fantasies, against which any influence from outside becomes an intolerable disturbance".
